A Moon Snail Walk

Spending a week on Whidbey Island sailing with friends. But today instead of sailing, I walked along the beach at Penn Cove. The low tide exposed millions of clams and the famous local Penn Cove mussels and I walked upon them, excited to find several Moon Snails. These ancient mollusks lay eggs in a bizarre round case called a sand collar. Their bodies are also bizarre. When one is spread out across the sand, it seems impossible that it will fit back into its shell, but it does!
