Sleepy Gulls

I walked along the pier to the Marine Science Center and noticed twenty Heermann's Gulls gathered together on the beach, the first I'd seen all summer. Two hours later hundreds flocked together, exhausted, having just flown in from Mexico. They preened their feathers, tucked their bright orange bills into their gray wings, and fell asleep.

    saw them yesterday as well after we did the hands across the water event at the MSC - am curious why would they be flying north? will report back
